In a significant law enforcement operation, Madhukhali police have apprehended 35-year-old Mithun Sarkar, a fugitive sentenced to ten years in prison for a drug-related case, from Dumain Botpara village in Dumain Union, Madhukhali Upazila, Faridpur. Mithun is the son of Sudishtir Sarkar, a long-time resident of the village.
Police sources revealed that Mithun was convicted in 2016 (case number 02) by the Madhukhali Police Court for drug offences. Following the verdict, he had remained a fugitive for several years. Law enforcement officials also confirmed that Mithun is implicated in at least seven additional criminal cases across various districts of Bangladesh.
Acting on a tip-off, Madhukhali police conducted a targeted operation in the Majhkandi area of the Upazila, resulting in Mithun’s arrest late on Saturday night (14 March) at approximately 3:00 am. Madhukhali Police Superintendent Fakir Md. Taijur Rahman stated, “The arrest was made based on credible intelligence. Mithun’s presence in the area was verified, and the operation was executed successfully at his residence.”
In a separate operation earlier the same night, around 2:00 am, police detained an active member of a local theft ring. The suspect, 24-year-old Md. Shahin Sheikh, is the son of Kabir Sheikh from Ujan Mallikpur village, Faridpur Sadar. Both individuals were presented before the Faridpur District Court on Sunday (15 March) afternoon.
The following table summarises key details of the two arrests:

Police officials have emphasised that these arrests aim to strengthen local law and order, curb criminal activity, and enhance community safety. “Operations like these are critical to dismantling organised criminal networks and ensuring that convicts serve their sentences,” OIC Rahman added.
Local residents have welcomed the police action, expressing hope that these arrests will deter criminal activity and contribute to a safer environment for the community, particularly for youth vulnerable to criminal influences.
The Madhukhali police have vowed to continue intelligence-driven operations to apprehend fugitives and dismantle criminal syndicates operating within and beyond Faridpur.
This operation underscores the police’s ongoing commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining public safety in the region.
