A Bangladeshi expatriate from Mymensingh, Abdullah Al Mamun, has died after sustaining severe injuries in a missile attack in Saudi Arabia. His father confirmed the death on Wednesday morning, 18 March.
Abdullah Al Mamun, aged 35, was a resident of Bharbhara village in Rasulpur Union, Gafargaon Upazila. He was the son of Shahid Saudagar and had been working in Saudi Arabia as a migrant labourer.
According to family sources, the incident occurred on 8 March, just before Iftar, at a workers’ camp operated by Al Towaik Baladia Company in Al Khurais city. A missile struck the camp, causing significant casualties. Mamun sustained severe burns covering approximately 72 per cent of his body and was immediately admitted to Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Khurais for urgent treatment.
Despite intensive medical care, he remained on life support and was declared dead in the early hours of Tuesday night at 11:30 PM. His body has since been kept at the hospital morgue, awaiting repatriation to Bangladesh.
Mamun’s cousin, Shawon Morol, stated, “He was critically injured in the explosion and was receiving treatment at the hospital. Tragically, he passed away there. He leaves behind a young son.”
The news of Mamun’s death has cast a deep shadow of grief over his family and local community. Relatives have urgently requested that his body be returned to Bangladesh as soon as possible.
