Three members of a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) intelligence team, operating in plain clothes, were injured after being attacked with sharp weapons by unidentified assailants in Narayanganj on Tuesday. The incident took place around 1:30 pm in the Deovogh Lichu Bagh area of the city.
According to police sources, the RAB-11 intelligence team had gone to the area for reconnaissance in connection with a suspected drug-related location. Shortly after their arrival, they were allegedly attacked without warning by a group of individuals armed with sharp weapons. The officers sustained injuries to multiple parts of their bodies during the assault.
Following the incident, the injured personnel were rescued and first taken to Narayanganj General Hospital (Victoria General Hospital). Due to the severity of injuries sustained by one of the officers, Sub-Inspector Nazibul, he was subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The other two injured officers, identified as Mahi (25) and Ibrahim (25), are undergoing treatment at Narayanganj General Hospital.
Medical officials confirmed that the injured officers suffered wounds to the head, arms, and other parts of the body as a result of sharp weapon attacks. Initial treatment was administered at the local hospital before one officer was referred for specialised care.
The Officer-in-Charge of Fatullah Model Police Station, Khandaker Mahbub, stated that the attack was carried out by unidentified miscreants using sharp weapons on the RAB intelligence team. He added that joint operations by police and RAB are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved.
In response to the incident, Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain, commanding officer of RAB-11, visited the injured officers at the hospital. He confirmed that the team was not engaged in a formal anti-drug operation at the time of the attack. According to his statement, the intelligence team was conducting reconnaissance in plain clothes when they came under sudden assault by armed individuals suspected to be linked to drug trafficking activities and criminal groups. He also confirmed that the injured personnel are receiving medical treatment.
