Shilpakala Academy Showcases Electronic Music Through Workshop and Live Performances

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has organised a day-long event celebrating electronic music, bringing together technology, creativity and contemporary musical expression through a workshop and live stage performances.

Titled ‘Notun Shobdo: Electronic Music Workshop and Stage Performance’, the programme was held on Saturday at the National Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, according to a press release issued by the organisation.

Designed to introduce participants to the evolving world of electronic music, the event began with a workshop that ran from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm. The training sessions offered attendees practical and theoretical knowledge of the genre, covering key aspects such as sound design, beat-making, live performance setup, and the basic operation of music production software and hardware.

The workshop was led by Shadwaan Chowdhury, Nazmus Sakib and Hasib Mahmud, all of whom shared their experience with aspiring musicians and sound creators. It was primarily aimed at young and emerging musicians, sound artists and members of the new generation with an interest in exploring electronic music as both a creative and professional discipline.

Electronic music has become an increasingly significant part of the global music landscape, with digital production tools making music creation more accessible than ever before. In Bangladesh, the genre has gradually developed a dedicated community of producers, performers and enthusiasts who are experimenting with new sounds while blending modern production techniques with local artistic influences. Events such as this provide an opportunity for newcomers to gain practical skills while also connecting with experienced practitioners in the field.

The second half of the programme featured a live electronic music performance from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Contemporary electronic musicians and sound artists actively involved in Bangladesh’s growing electronic music scene took to the stage, presenting performances that highlighted the diversity and creative potential of digitally produced music.

According to the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the initiative sought to bring together the sounds of modern urban life, technological innovation and artistic creativity in a shared cultural space. By combining hands-on training with live performances, the event encouraged greater appreciation of electronic music and its expanding role within Bangladesh’s cultural landscape.

The programme was jointly organised by the Training and Production Departments of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh, reflecting continued efforts to support emerging forms of artistic expression alongside the country’s rich traditional cultural heritage.
