Two Cousins Die in Daundkandi Drowning Tragedy

A profound sense of grief has descended upon a local community in Comilla following a devastating drowning incident that claimed the lives of two young toddlers. The victims, both aged two, were close cousins who lived in the same neighbourhood. Their sudden and tragic passing has left their families completely shattered, casting a pall of sorrow over the entire village.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on Sunday evening within the premises of the traditional Miyazi household situated in Talerchheo village, located under the Maligaon Union of Daundkandi Upazila. The deceased children have been identified as two-year-old Ayan, son of Ismail Miyazi, and two-year-old Adil, son of Zahidur Rahman. As children of the same extended family, the two boys grew up playing side by side, making the dual tragedy an unbearable blow to their grieving parents and relatives.
According to local accounts and family members, the toddlers had been playing near the courtyard or the surrounding open spaces on Sunday afternoon. In an unobserved moment, as small children often wander off, the duo unfortunately strayed towards an unguarded body of water adjacent to the homestead. As evening approached and the children were nowhere to be seen, a frantic search commenced across the household. Moments later, family members made the horrific discovery of the two boys floating in the water.
Panic and despair gripped the family as they pulled the unresponsive toddlers from the water. Recognising the critical nature of the situation, relatives rushed the young cousins without delay to the Daundkandi Maligaon 50-Bedded Hospital in a desperate bid to save their lives.
Upon arrival at the emergency unit, Dr Mosharraf Hossain, the medical officer on duty, promptly examined both children. Despite the swift efforts of the family to seek medical intervention, the examination confirmed that the toddlers had already succumbed to the accident before reaching the hospital. They were officially declared dead upon arrival.
Dr Md Al-Amin Miyazi, superintendent of the Daundkandi Maligaon 50-Bedded Hospital, verified the unfortunate occurrence, stating that the two children were brought into the emergency department on Sunday evening where medical staff confirmed their fatalities. Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sajedul Islam of Daundkandi Model Police Station acknowledged the incident, noting that law enforcement authorities are closely monitoring the situation and gathering local details. Public safety advocates continue to urge heightened vigilance among rural families regarding open water bodies to prevent such heartbreaking losses of young lives.
