NCP Leader Arrested Over Schoolgirl Abduction in Ashulia

Law enforcement agencies in Ashulia have arrested two individuals, including a local political leader, in connection with the abduction of a 16-year-old class ten student from Savar Cantonment Public School and College. The high-profile arrest has drawn significant public attention, highlighting concerns over student safety and local crime.
The police action unfolded following targeted overnight raids conducted across various pockets of Ashulia based on confidential intelligence tips. The suspects were formally produced before a judicial magistrate on Wednesday afternoon, where court proceedings commenced regarding their involvement in the crime.
Those taken into custody have been identified as Tauhidur Islam Sanbi, who served as the Liberation War Affairs Secretary for the Dhaka North district committee of the National Citizen Party (NCP), and his associate Nazim. However, the prime suspect behind the abduction, a 23-year-old local youth named Shakil, remains at large as police intensify efforts to track him down.
According to the official First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the victim’s mother, Arifa Akter, the teenager regularly commuted to her educational institution. For a prolonged period, Shakil and his associates had allegedly been harassing and stalking the student along her daily transit route. The situation escalated dramatically on Monday morning when Arifa Akter dropped her daughter off at the school gates at approximately 8:00 am.
When the mother returned to collect her daughter at around 2:15 pm, she was met with shocking news. Witnesses and school authorities informed her that moments earlier, at roughly 2:00 pm, Shakil and his accomplices had lured and forcefully abducted the young girl from directly outside the main school entrance.
Distraught by the disappearance, Arifa Akter filed a formal complaint at Ashulia Police Station on Tuesday under the stringent Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The complaint named Shakil, a resident of the Madhupur area in Ashulia and son of Md Habibur Rahman, as the principal accused.
Subsequent police investigations into the abduction ring uncovered crucial leads pointing towards external complicity. Evidence gathered by investigators indicated that NCP leader Tauhidur Islam Sanbi and his associate Nazim provided direct logistical support, incitement, and protection to the primary perpetrator. Acting on these findings, officers executed swift raids to apprehend the pair.
Confirming the details of the operation, Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam stated that preliminary inquiries and formal case investigations revealed concrete proof of Sanbi and Nazim’s direct involvement in orchestrating or aiding the kidnapping. Following their arrest, both men were transferred to court under police escort. Meanwhile, specialized teams have been deployed to locate the prime suspect, ensure the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirl, and bring all remaining culprits to justice.
