Child’s Body Found After Two Days in Sakhipur

Deep sorrow and growing public concern have gripped Sakhipur Upazila in Tangail District after the body of a missing schoolgirl, Senzuti, was recovered from a pond within the premises of the Upazila Parishad complex two days after she disappeared.

Local residents discovered the body floating in the water at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday and immediately alerted the police. Officers quickly arrived at the scene, recovered the remains, and initiated legal procedures.

Senzuti, a second-grade student at a local early education institution, was the daughter of Falu Chandra Malu of the Mandirpara area in the municipal ward. According to family members and neighbours, she was a quiet, well-behaved child who was deeply engaged in her studies, making the incident even more distressing for the community.

Her disappearance was first reported on Saturday afternoon when she failed to return home after 4:00 p.m. Despite extensive searches by family members and locals across nearby areas, no trace of her was found. As news spread, anxiety grew rapidly within the locality, with the case soon becoming a subject of widespread discussion on social media platforms.

Later that night, her father lodged a general diary with the local police station. The following day, the family received a phone call from an unidentified number demanding a ransom of three lakh taka in exchange for the child’s safe return. However, before any resolution could be reached, her body was discovered early Monday morning.

Police confirmed that the body has been sent to the morgue at the district hospital in Tangail for post-mortem examination. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the reported ransom demand, to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and that no possibility is being ruled out at this stage. Officials have assured that the case is being treated with utmost seriousness, given the sensitivity of the incident and public concern.

Local residents have expressed shock and outrage, demanding a swift, transparent, and thorough investigation. Many have also raised concerns about safety and surveillance in and around public spaces such as the Upazila Parishad complex.
