Four-Year-Old Killed by Stepmother in Joypurhat, Arrest Made

Police in Akkelpur, Joypurhat, have arrested Jahnara Begum following allegations that she fatally assaulted her four-year-old stepson, Naeem Hossain. The incident occurred on Sunday, 30 November, around 11 am in Gilakuri village, Tilokpur Union.

Neighbours reported that Jahnara Begum had been regularly abusing Naeem and his younger sister, Jannat, since the birth of her own child. On the day of the incident, with the boy’s father absent, she allegedly beat Naeem severely. The child was later found dead on the floor, with dark bruises and deep head injuries visible on his body.

Police recovered Naeem’s body and took Jahnara Begum into custody for questioning. Superintendent Arif Hossain stated that preliminary investigations indicate the killing may be linked to property disputes. Naeem’s father, Jalil Sheikh, is currently absconding and remains at large. Authorities are actively searching for him to clarify his possible involvement and assist with ongoing inquiries.
