A tragic collision between a tuk-tuk and an auto-rickshaw in Dumki, Patuakhali, has claimed the lives of two individuals, including a young child, while leaving two others injured. The accident occurred on Friday, 26 December, at approximately 9:30 a.m., near the Shrirampur Bridge on the Dumki-Bauphal Road.
The deceased have been identified as Rabiul, a six-year-old boy from Jhila village in the neighbouring Bauphal Upazila, and Ibrahim, a 55-year-old resident of Bori Kolta village. The injured, who sustained serious injuries in the collision, are Md. Suman Sardar, 25, and Abdul Kader, 50, also residents of Jhila and Kolta villages, respectively.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred when a fast-moving, engine-powered tuk-tuk transporting goods collided head-on with the oncoming auto-rickshaw. The impact caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn, critically injuring all four passengers on board.
The injured were immediately rushed to the local Upazila Health Complex for emergency care. Unfortunately, both Rabiul and Ibrahim were declared dead upon arrival. The two survivors received initial treatment at the Upazila hospital before being transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for further care.
Police have recovered the bodies of the deceased and are preparing to send them to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Dumki Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Selim Uddin, confirmed that a case is being filed, and formal proceedings are underway.
