Protesters Demand Government Fall If Hadi Murder Unsolved

The Inquilab Front has issued a stern warning to the government, stating that if the perpetrators of Sharif Osman Hadi’s murder are not brought to justice within the next 30 working days, they will launch a movement aimed at toppling the administration.

On Friday, following the Jumu’ah prayers, the Inquilab Front organised a protest march from the Dhaka University Central Mosque, culminating in the blockade of Shahbagh Mor. Addressing the demonstrators, Inquilab Front Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber delivered a forceful message against the government.

“Our position is clear and transparent,” Abdullah Al Zaber declared. “If the government fails to ensure the trial of Sharif Osman Hadi’s killers within 30 working days, we will begin a movement to remove them from power. There is no justification for a government that cannot arrest the murderers or disclose their whereabouts.”

He further emphasised that justice must extend beyond the killers themselves. “By 7 January, not only the perpetrators but also those involved behind the scenes must be identified, and charges formally filed. If the government cannot reveal the forces behind this heinous crime, they have no reason to remain in office,” he stated.

Abdullah Al Zaber also criticised the government’s sluggish response. “It has been 21 days since Osman Hadi was shot and 15 days since his martyrdom, yet the government has provided no progress report. There is no information on the whereabouts of the killers or those complicit in the murder. In these circumstances, protesters will not suspend their programmes,” he said.

On the subject of elections, Al Zaber stressed, “Elections must be held, and they will be. However, for a government to truly represent the people, it must go beyond cantonment walls and engage directly with the aspirations and realities of citizens.”

The demonstration saw participants carrying placards and posters demanding the swift arrest of Hadi’s killers and a transparent trial process. Authorities and protest leaders engaged in peaceful negotiations to clear the Shahbagh Mor blockade.
