Deezer Cracks Down on AI Music Fraud

Paris, 29 January 2026 – Global music streaming giant Deezer has taken a decisive step to curb fraud involving AI-generated music on its platform. The company revealed that nearly 85% of AI-created tracks uploaded in 2025 were identified as fraudulent or manipulative. No royalties were paid for these streams, and they were removed from the royalty distribution pool. Deezer is now commercially offering its AI-detection technology to the music industry, aiming to promote transparency and ensure fair compensation for creators.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier stated, “Music created entirely by AI is becoming almost indistinguishable from human-made work. Our commitment, however, remains to uphold transparency and protect artists’ rights. Our focus is to prevent fraud, identify AI tracks, and provide users with clear, trustworthy options.”

In 2025, Deezer’s AI-detection tool tagged over 13.4 million AI-generated tracks. In January 2026 alone, an average of 60,000 AI tracks were uploaded daily, accounting for roughly 39% of all daily uploads. The platform reported that AI tracks are primarily used to artificially inflate streaming counts, whereas overall streaming fraud across the entire catalogue was only 8%.

To mitigate the risk, Deezer automatically excludes identified AI tracks from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, safeguarding artists’ royalties and maintaining the integrity of music discovery.

Deezer has commercially released this AI-detection technology to the wider industry, with trials already conducted alongside leading organisations such as Sacem. The tool can identify music generated by popular generative AI models like Suno and Udio with 100% accuracy.

Amid growing concerns over AI and copyright, Deezer has become the only streaming platform to sign a global AI training statement aimed at protecting creators’ rights. Industry analysts predict that by 2028, up to 25% of creators’ revenue, approximately €4 billion, could be at risk without such safeguards.

Deezer’s initiative sets a new benchmark for transparency, fair royalties, and the prevention of AI-generated music fraud. Despite the surge in AI tracks, the platform emphasises that royalties for real artists remain protected, allowing users to enjoy music confidently and ethically.
