The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has apprehended another suspect in connection with the murder of RAB official Abdul Motaleb, who died following a violent assault by miscreants in Jungle Salimpur under Sitakunda Upazila. The individual has been identified as Ayub Ali, also known as Babul Shawdagar.
According to a press release issued by RAB-7 on Monday afternoon, the suspect was arrested on Sunday night during an operation conducted in the Loyall Road area, under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram city. Ayub Ali is the son of the late Abdul Malek, residing in Ward No. 8 of Sitakunda Upazila.
The fatal incident occurred on the afternoon of 19 January, when an aggressive group of criminals launched a brutal assault on a team of law enforcement personnel in Jungle Salimpur. During this violent confrontation, four members of the elite force were severely beaten. RAB official Abdul Motaleb sustained catastrophic injuries and subsequently lost his life as a result of the attack.
Following this severe breach of public order, the entire Jungle Salimpur region was placed under strict surveillance, with law enforcement agencies maintaining a heightened presence to restore security and locate those responsible.
Prior to the apprehension of Ayub Ali, law enforcement personnel had already detained two other individuals implicated in the case. Two days prior to this latest operation, suspects identified as Ali Akbar and Imran were successfully arrested by the authorities.
The Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7, ARM Muzaffar Hossain, stated that the arrest of Ayub Ali was executed based on precise intelligence reports linked to the ongoing investigation initiated by the Sitakunda Police Station. The investigation formally identified Ayub Ali as a key suspect in the murder case.
The official further disclosed that the accused has a prior criminal record, with multiple cases registered against him at various police stations for different offences. Following his arrest by RAB-7 in the Kotwali area, Ayub Ali was formally transferred to the Sitakunda Police Station for further legal processing and formal arraignment.
