A serious incident in Narayanganj’s Bandar area has sparked widespread concern after a police patrol came under sudden attack by a group of criminals who also made off with a service weapon. Two officers were injured in the confrontation, although the stolen firearm was later recovered by law enforcement. The episode has heightened tensions locally, prompting intensified security operations and multiple investigative teams to be deployed.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 30 April, at approximately 3:00 a.m. in the Rustampur area under Kalagachhia Union. Earlier in the night, three students from a local government college, Government Kadam Rasul College, had reportedly been stranded in the nearby Sabdi area due to heavy rainfall. Around 1:30 a.m., they were allegedly targeted by a group of muggers while attempting to return home.
Following reports of the robbery attempt, a patrol unit from Bandar Police Station swiftly reached the location to address the situation. However, upon arrival, the situation escalated dramatically. The assailants launched a sudden and coordinated attack on the officers, turning what had begun as a routine response into a violent confrontation.
During the assault, Constable Faisal sustained stab injuries inflicted with a sharp weapon. In the ensuing struggle, the attackers managed to seize his service shotgun. At the same time, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sohel was also injured while attempting to control the situation and protect his colleague.
Local residents played a crucial role in assisting the injured officers, who were subsequently evacuated and given first aid. Additional police reinforcements were deployed shortly afterwards, enabling authorities to regain control of the area. Within a short period, the stolen shotgun was recovered, though the attackers had already fled the scene before they could be apprehended.
Law enforcement officials have described the incident as highly serious and confirmed that a full-scale investigation is underway. Intelligence units and specialised teams have been assigned to identify and track down those involved. Preparations are also in progress to file formal charges against the perpetrators under applicable criminal laws.
Residents of the area have expressed concern over a perceived rise in nighttime criminal activity in Rustampur and surrounding neighbourhoods. Many have called for increased patrol frequency and stronger surveillance measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
