Balam Returns With Sufi Album

Bangladeshi music sensation Balam is set to make a major comeback with a full-length studio album after more than a decade, marking a significant milestone in his long-standing musical journey. The upcoming album, titled “Maola”, will be his fifth solo record and represents his most comprehensive body of work in recent years.

Although Balam has remained active in the music scene through periodic single releases, he has expressed a renewed artistic commitment to the album format. According to the singer, a full album allows him to explore varied moods, styles, and creative expressions in a unified project, offering listeners a more complete musical experience.

A Sufi-Inspired Direction

The album comprises six tracks, each crafted with distinct musical textures while maintaining melody as its central foundation. The title track, “Maola”, stands out as a Sufi-inspired composition, reflecting spiritual introspection and emotional depth. The lyrics include the refrain, “Maola Maola Maola / Tui pana dere Maola,” co-written by Rashid Newton and Balam himself.

The song draws inspiration from reflections during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period the artist describes as emotionally transformative. The sense of uncertainty and collective vulnerability influenced the spiritual tone of the track, marking Balam’s first formal exploration of Sufi-style music.

Visual Production and Release Plans

The music video for “Maola” is scheduled to be filmed in Nepal, with acclaimed director Taneem Rahman Angshu overseeing production. The video will be released via Balam’s official YouTube channel during the upcoming Eid festivities, with the artist promising a large-scale and visually rich presentation.

Balam emphasised that modern music consumption increasingly relies on visual storytelling as much as sound. He noted that each track in the album has its own emotional and aesthetic identity, designed to appeal to audiences across different age groups and musical preferences.
