The long-awaited judgment in the widely discussed murder case of schoolgirl Tasnia Hossain Adita (14) in Noakhali has once again been postponed, with the court rescheduling the verdict delivery for 29 April. The development has renewed both anticipation and anxiety among the victim’s family and local residents who have been closely following the proceedings.
On Wednesday (15 April), at approximately 11:00 am, Judge Mohammad Khorshedul Alam Shikder of the Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 formally announced the deferment in open court. The previously fixed date for the verdict was revised during the hearing itself, setting a new deadline nearly two weeks later.
Public Prosecutor Md Selim Shahi, representing the state, confirmed the postponement, stating that the decision was made in consideration of procedural requirements within the judicial process. He added that although the case had reached its concluding stage, additional time was deemed necessary before pronouncing judgment.

Background of the Incident
Adita, a resident of Laxminarayanpur area in Noakhali Municipality, was the daughter of the late Riaz Hossain Sarkar. Her mother, Razia Sultana Begum, is a teacher at a private educational institution in Begumganj Upazila.
The accused, Abdul Rahim Rony (32), son of Khalil Miah from the same locality, had previously worked as Adita’s private tutor.
According to case documents, the victim’s mutilated body was recovered on the afternoon of 22 September 2022 from a residence known as Jahan Manzil in Laxminarayanpur. The condition of the body—bearing severe injuries including cuts to the throat, wrists, and ankles—triggered widespread shock and outrage in the community.
Police arrested the accused later that night. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the killing and led law enforcement officials to the recovery of key evidence, including a knife and a pillow believed to have been used in the crime. He also provided a confessional statement before a magistrate.
Trial Progress
The prosecution argued that the accused became resentful after the victim stopped taking private lessons from him and began studying under another tutor. It is further alleged that he entered the house while the victim’s mother was absent and carried out the attack with intent to kill. Investigators also claimed that the scene was manipulated afterwards in an attempt to conceal the crime.
During the trial, testimony from 41 prosecution witnesses and 5 defence witnesses was recorded before arguments concluded, paving the way for the verdict stage.
