Curiosity-Driven Killing Shocks Narayanganj

A deeply disturbing case in Fattulla, Narayanganj, has revealed that an 11-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by a group of children of similar age after what investigators describe as a morbid curiosity about imprisonment. The incident has triggered widespread shock and concern across the locality.

According to police, the victim, Hosain, used to assist his father in selling flowers in the city. He went missing on 18 April while carrying out his daily activities. After several days of searching, his body was recovered on 24 April from an abandoned building near Fattulla railway station.

At a press briefing held on Monday, Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi confirmed that preliminary investigations suggest the crime was premeditated and driven by misguided curiosity among the group of minors. The accused allegedly discussed the notion of what it feels like to be sent to prison after committing murder, which escalated into a deliberate plan to kill.

Investigators revealed that the group of adolescents, who were reportedly involved in substance abuse and frequently gathered in idle street assemblies, devised a plan led by three main individuals. They lured Hosain with the promise of cannabis consumption, deceiving him into accompanying them to a secluded abandoned structure.

Once inside, several other minors were already present at the location. The group then attacked the victim with sharp weapons, inflicting fatal injuries before fleeing the scene, leaving his body behind.

Following the discovery of the body, police launched an immediate investigation. On 25 April, the first suspect, identified as Yasin, was arrested. Based on his statements, law enforcement detained five additional minors in successive operations. In total, six individuals have been taken into custody, while one suspect remains at large.

One of the detainees has reportedly provided a confession under Section 164 before a magistrate, and the murder weapon has also been recovered.

Police Superintendent Munshi expressed grave concern over the increasing involvement of children in violent criminal activity, attributing it to drug exposure, lack of supervision, and the influence of delinquent peer groups. He stressed the need for stronger community vigilance, preventive policing, and social awareness campaigns to address juvenile delinquency.

The brutal killing has left residents of Fattulla in a state of fear and disbelief, with many demanding urgent intervention from authorities to curb rising youth violence and prevent further tragedies of this nature.
