Debt Dispute Turns Fatal in Madaripur

A violent altercation over unpaid money in Bangladesh’s Madaripur district has left one man dead, following a confrontation that escalated into physical violence between two local parties.

The incident occurred at around 7:00 pm on Saturday (9 May) in front of a tea stall owned by Chunnu Fakir in Krishnapur village under Paiarpur Union in Rajair upazila. The deceased has been identified as Rahim Sardar (45), son of the late Sohorab Sardar of Krishnapur village.

According to local accounts, Rahim Sardar was engaged in a small-scale trading business, transporting and selling pilaf rice using a van in Dhaka. The dispute originated from a financial transaction involving unpaid dues between Rahim Sardar and Asad Bepari (50), a fellow villager, and Asad’s son, Didar Bepari (30).

What began as a verbal exchange over the outstanding payment quickly intensified. Witnesses reported that both sides became involved in a heated argument, which then turned into a physical confrontation. During the clash, Rahim Sardar reportedly fell seriously ill or was critically injured.

Local residents intervened and rushed him to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. However, attending doctors declared him dead after examination. His body was later sent to the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Authorities have confirmed that the dispute was primarily related to financial dealings between the parties, who were reportedly acquainted through business interactions. Police have stated that legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
