Seizure of Narcotics, Weapons, and Legal Proceedings
During the various raids, police personnel seized a total of 58 pieces of Yaba tablets, a potent synthetic narcotic, which serves as evidence of local drug distribution. In addition to the narcotics, officers recovered dangerous weaponry, specifically two “Samurai” swords and two cleavers (chapatis). These items are frequently associated with street-level violence, intimidation, and muggings in the capital. Furthermore, a total of 2,770 Bangladeshi Taka in cash was confiscated, suspected to be proceeds from criminal transactions.
Deputy Commissioner NM Nasiruddin stated that these operations are part of a broader, sustained initiative to “sanitise” crime-prone areas and deter criminal syndicates from establishing a foothold in the metropolitan heart of Dhaka. The police confirmed that all 72 suspects have been processed and forwarded to the court to face legal proceedings relevant to their specific alleged offences.
The Tejgaon division is a critical urban area characterised by high-traffic commercial zones and industrial hubs. The DMP has signalled that such “regular operations” will continue to be conducted to ensure the safety of residents and the integrity of businesses. Under the current legal framework, the suspects will remain in judicial custody pending further investigation into their involvement in organised robbery, the narcotics trade, and other violent crimes.
