Fatal Collision Claims Four Lives in Mymensingh

A devastating head-on collision between a sand-laden truck and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh has left four people dead and several others injured, prompting renewed concerns over road safety on the busy Mymensingh–Tangail highway.

The accident occurred around 11:45am on Monday in the Montala area of Kumarghata under Muktagacha upazila. According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the truck, travelling from Muktagacha towards Mymensingh, collided directly with an oncoming autorickshaw carrying passengers. The impact was so severe that the three-wheeled vehicle was completely crushed, while the truck lost control and overturned beside the road.

Three female passengers of the autorickshaw died instantly at the scene due to the intensity of the crash. The accident site quickly turned chaotic as local residents rushed in to assist with rescue efforts before emergency services arrived.

Upon receiving an alert via the national emergency service number 999, a team from the Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the location and carried out rescue operations in coordination with local police and residents. The wreckage was cleared with difficulty due to the extent of damage to both vehicles.

Three injured individuals—including the truck driver, the truck helper, and the autorickshaw driver—were rescued in critical condition and transported to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment. However, one of the injured later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, bringing the total death toll to four.

Authorities have confirmed that the identities of the deceased have yet to be officially established. Police stated that efforts are ongoing to identify the victims and notify their families. Legal proceedings related to the incident are also underway.

Officials from the Fire Service noted that the severity of the collision significantly slowed down rescue operations, as both vehicles were heavily damaged and entangled. Despite the challenges, the combined efforts of emergency responders and local residents enabled the prompt recovery of victims.

Law enforcement officials have since brought the situation under control and initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash. Preliminary observations suggest that high-speed movement and possible loss of control may have contributed to the collision, though authorities have not yet released a final conclusion.
