Police recovered the bodies of five people from different parts of Barguna district within a 24-hour period, between Friday afternoon and 11:30am on Saturday. The recoveries took place in the upazilas of Sadar, Patharghata and Bamna.
Among the five cases, three involved hanging deaths, one person was killed in a public assault, and the body of an auto-rickshaw driver was found beside a road. Three of the deceased were residents of Sadar Upazila, while the remaining two lived in Patharghata and Bamna upazilas.
On Saturday morning, police recovered the hanging body of a housewife, Mosa. Kona, 34, from her residence in Lemua area of Ayla Patakata Union under Sadar Upazila. Around the same time, officers recovered the hanging body of Saleha Begum, aged 93, from a house in Noli area of Dhalua Union, also in Sadar Upazila.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, a violent incident linked to drug trafficking resulted in the death of Ibrahim Hossain, also known as Kalu. According to reports, Ibrahim and his associates allegedly attacked and seriously injured a Union Parishad member with sharp weapons. Following the incident, local residents reportedly became enraged and attacked members of the Kalu group. Ibrahim Hossain, identified as the leader of the group, was killed at the scene.
Mohammad Abdul Alim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, said that police had recovered the hanging bodies of the two women on Saturday morning. He also confirmed that an identified criminal had died following a beating by local residents on the previous day.
In a separate incident, police recovered the body of Mizanur Rahman, 45, an auto-rickshaw driver, from a road south of the Water Development Board premises in Patharghata Municipality early on Saturday. Mizanur was a resident of Ward No. 2 of the municipality.
Family members said that Mizanur had eaten dinner and gone to sleep at home on Friday night. At some point between 1:30am and 2:00am, he reportedly left the house and did not return. Local residents later discovered his body beside the road at dawn and informed police. Allegations have been raised that he was killed as a result of a land dispute with neighbours.
Patharghata Police Station OC Md Enamul Haque said preliminary information suggested that the incident may have been connected to a dispute over land. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is filed.
Meanwhile, at around 11:30am on Saturday, police recovered the hanging body of Ehsan, an 18-year-old college student, from the Kolagachia area of Bamna Upazila.
Bamna Police Station OC Md Faruk Hossain said initial indications suggested that the young man may have taken his own life due to a relationship-related issue. Police found headphones in his ears when the body was recovered and seized his mobile phone. The cause of death remains under investigation.

Hasanur Rahman, convener of the District Public Policy Forum, said that many people were choosing suicide as a result of social degradation. He stated that awareness meetings and seminars at neighbourhood level were needed to discourage such deaths.
Police said investigations into the separate incidents are continuing, and further details are expected following post-mortem examinations and ongoing inquiries.
