Four Children Drown in Noakhali

Four children have died in separate drowning incidents over a two-day period in Hatia and Kabirhat upazilas of Noakhali district, according to local reports. The deaths occurred in different locations, involving ponds and a water-filled excavation site, and have been confirmed by local authorities and hospital officials. Police have described the incidents as accidental.

In the first incident on Monday at approximately 9:00 a.m., a six-year-old girl, Nusrat Begum Mouriom, drowned in a pond adjacent to her residence in Charloitra village under Ward No. 2 of Hatiya Municipality. Family members initiated a search after she went missing and later recovered her body from the pond at around 11:00 a.m. The child was the daughter of a local resident, Miraj.

In a separate incident earlier on Sunday at dawn, the body of four-year-old Saimon was recovered from a pond in Sonadia Union under Hatiya Upazila. According to family members, the child had been missing since Saturday afternoon. His body was later found floating in the pond near their home early the following morning. Saimon was the son of Md. Farid of the same area.

On the same day in Kabirhat Upazila, two more children died in a separate drowning incident in Narottampur Union. The victims, identified as three-year-old Niha and five-year-old Jannat, were reportedly playing when they fell into a water-filled pit formed by soil excavation work. Local residents rescued them and took them to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital, where attending doctors declared both children dead. Niha was the daughter of Zobayed, and Jannat was the daughter of Yusuf.

The incidents occurred in close succession across two upazilas, highlighting multiple drowning cases involving young children in residential and semi-residential environments, including ponds and excavation sites containing stagnant water.

Authorities have confirmed that all four deaths were due to drowning. No complaints have been lodged by the affected families, and police have visited the respective locations for preliminary investigation and procedural formalities.
