Heroin Syndicate Leader Arrested in Savar

A suspected major drug trafficker has been arrested in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, following the recovery of approximately 1.25 kilograms of heroin in a late-night operation conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB-4). The seizure has prompted significant attention in the local area due to the scale of the confiscated narcotics.

According to RAB-4, the operation was carried out at around 11:30 pm on Monday in the Amtola Palowanpara area adjacent to the Birulia Road in West Rajashan, Savar. The arrested individual has been identified as 27-year-old Hridoy Hossain, a resident of West Deogaon village under Savar upazila.

During the raid, law enforcement officers recovered a total of 1 kilogram and 245 grams of heroin from his possession. Preliminary interrogation suggests that the accused had been involved in collecting heroin from different regions of the country and distributing it across Savar and neighbouring areas. Law enforcement officials suspect that he operated as an active member of an organised drug trafficking network, although further investigation is ongoing to confirm the full extent of the syndicate.

Local residents have alleged that the arrested individual had long been exerting influence in the area under the cover of narcotics trade. Some community members also claimed that he was allegedly linked to other criminal activities, including extortion and the control of local juvenile gangs. However, these allegations have not been independently verified by authorities.

There are also claims from local sources that he maintained influence in the area through various political affiliations over time, allegedly shifting alignments to sustain his control. Officials have not confirmed these claims, and no formal evidence has been presented in this regard.

RAB-4 has stated that operations against organised drug networks will continue as part of their ongoing campaign to curb narcotics distribution across the region. They further indicated that intelligence activities have been intensified to identify and apprehend other members associated with the network.

Following the arrest, local residents reportedly expressed relief, hoping that sustained enforcement efforts will help reduce drug-related crimes and improve overall public safety in the area. Authorities, meanwhile, have reiterated their commitment to continuing strict action against drug trafficking syndicates operating across Savar and surrounding districts.
