Luggage Dispute Sparks Clash in Kasba

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between residents of two villages in Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria after a dispute linked to a missing bag belonging to a Hajj pilgrim escalated into violence.

As of 2:30 pm on Saturday, when this report was being prepared, the confrontation was still ongoing. Police had reached the area and were attempting to bring the situation under control.

According to local residents, an elderly woman from Shahpur village travelled to Saudi Arabia this year to perform Hajj. During her stay, she reportedly lost one of her pieces of luggage.

On Thursday evening, the pilgrim visited the Kasba Hajj Kafela, operated by Mohammad Gias Uddin of Araibari village, seeking assistance regarding the missing luggage. Representatives of the organisation reportedly informed her that responsibility for lost luggage rests with the individual pilgrim and that the organisation could not take any action regarding the matter.

The exchange led to a disagreement between the parties. Local sources said that the dispute quickly developed into an altercation and physical confrontation on the same day.

The tension created by that incident continued over the following days. On Saturday, residents associated with both sides became involved in a larger confrontation. According to local accounts, people from the opposing groups gathered with locally made weapons and clashed in the municipal area of Kasba and nearby locations.

The violence resulted in injuries to at least 15 people from both sides. No detailed information regarding the identities of the injured or the severity of their injuries was immediately available.

Witnesses reported that the situation spread beyond the original dispute and affected surrounding areas of the municipality. Police were deployed after the clashes intensified and attempted to prevent further escalation.

Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Naznin Sultana confirmed the incident. She stated that law enforcement personnel were actively working to control the situation and restore order.

At the time of reporting, authorities had not announced any arrests or provided further details regarding possible legal action. Police efforts remained focused on bringing the confrontation under control and preventing additional violence.
