A two-year-old child was killed and at least five people were injured following a head-on collision between a private car and a passenger-carrying easy bike in Kalukhali Upazila of Rajbari district. The accident occurred on Friday evening at the Kalukhali College intersection on the Rajbari–Kushtia regional highway.
The deceased was identified as Advik Agarwala, the son of Joy Agarwala of the Ambikapur area under Faridpur Kotwali Police Station.
Those injured in the incident were Advik’s mother, Jyoti Khetan Agarwala, 32, and his uncle, Mahadev Agarwala, 25, as well as easy bike driver Sohag Mia, 45, and passengers Selina Begum, 50, and Islam Mondal, 50. Among the injured, Jyoti Khetan Agarwala and Mahadev Agarwala were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to Pangsah Highway Police and local sources, Jyoti Agarwala was returning to Faridpur from her parental home in Joypurhat by private car. Travelling with her were her two-year-old son Advik and her brother-in-law Mahadev Agarwala.
At approximately 6:30 pm, when the vehicle reached the area near Kalukhali College intersection, it collided head-on with a passenger easy bike travelling towards Pangsah from the opposite direction.
The impact severely damaged the easy bike. The private car subsequently lost control and fell into a roadside ditch. During the incident, Advik was thrown from his mother’s lap and sustained serious injuries. He later died.
Injured easy bike driver Sohag Mia stated that the private car first struck a van travelling ahead of it before becoming involved in the collision with the easy bike. As a result of the crash, the easy bike was badly crushed and several passengers suffered injuries.
Pangsah Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Al Mamun said that the child’s body was handed over to the family on Friday night. He added that three seriously injured individuals had been sent to Faridpur for advanced medical treatment, while the remaining injured persons received treatment locally.
Police took the damaged easy bike into custody. The private car, which had fallen into the ditch following the collision, was recovered later that night with the assistance of a crane. Legal procedures relating to the incident are currently underway, according to the officer.
