Neighbouring decoration worker arrested over alleged rape of a child in Anwara

ANWARA, CHITTAGONG – The police have apprehended a twenty-five-year-old man, identified as Arman Hossain, following allegations of raping a young child. The incident occurred on Monday morning (1 June) in the Ward No. 5 neighbourhood of Chatari Union, positioned within the Anwara Upazila sub-district.

The detained suspect, Arman Hossain, is the son of Md. Harun, a resident of the local Chatari area. Professionally, Hossain is employed as a local decoration worker. According to law enforcement personnel and community sources, the suspect and his immediate family had been residing in a nearby house for an extended period, sharing a direct residential neighbourhood with the family of the young victim.

Circumstances of the Incident

Following the harrowing event, the mother of the victim filed a formal criminal case as the primary complainant at the Anwara Police Station. Details retrieved from the First Information Report (FIR) indicate that the child was playing outside her residence alongside several other local children at approximately 08:00 BST. At around 09:00 BST, the child returned home in a visible state of distress, crying continuously.

Upon being questioned by her mother regarding the cause of her severe distress, the victim disclosed that during her playtime, her neighbour, Arman Hossain, had intercepted her. The suspect allegedly dragged her by force into an empty room belonging to a nearby resident. He then secured the premises from within by locking the door, where he subjected the child to physical assault and forced sexual violation.

The formal police statement further reveals that the victim’s playmates quickly sensed foul play outside the premises. Realising something was wrong, the children began forcefully knocking, banging, and shouting at the closed door, demanding it be opened. Yielding to the continuous disruption caused by the children outside, the accused eventually unlocked and opened the door, allowing the victim to escape the room.

Apprehension and Legal Action

Immediately following her escape, alert neighbours and local residents intervened and detained Arman Hossain directly at the scene of the crime. During subsequent on-site questioning by the gathered community members, the suspect reportedly confessed to the act of raping the child. Law enforcement authorities were subsequently notified of the containment of the suspect.

Upon receiving the emergency information, a team from the Anwara Police Station arrived swiftly at the scene, took custody of the accused, and transferred him to the police station for formal processing. Md. Junaet Choudhury, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station, formally verified the facts of the incident and condemned the crime.
