Police Officer Dies in River Collision

A tragic river accident in Narayanganj has claimed the life of a police officer after a patrol vessel collided with a bulkhead at the confluence of the Shitalakshya and Dhaleshwari rivers.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 pm on Thursday (7 May), when a team from the Kalagachhia River Police outpost set out on a routine night patrol aimed at preventing riverine crimes, including suspected acts of robbery and smuggling activities.

According to police accounts, the patrol team was led by Sub-Inspector M. Mokbul Hossain and consisted of four personnel aboard a police watercraft. While navigating the busy waterway, the vessel reportedly came into direct collision with a bulkhead, causing it to capsize almost instantly.

Although most members of the patrol managed to survive by swimming to a nearby vessel and pulling themselves to safety, Constable Md. Mohsin Sardar, aged 43, sustained severe injuries during the incident. He was quickly rescued and transported to Narayanganj Victoria General Hospital, where attending doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Personal and Family Background

The deceased officer, Md. Mohsin Sardar, hailed from Gopalpur village under Paikgachha Police Station in Khulna district. He was the son of the late Abdul Karim Sardar. His death has left behind a grieving family, including his elderly mother, wife, a 14-year-old son named Siam, and a 19-year-old daughter, Nishitha Akhtar Munni.

The Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj River Police Station, Rakibuzzaman, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officer. He stated that fellow members of the force are in shock following the tragedy. The body has been kept at Narayanganj General Hospital, and administrative procedures are underway to transfer it to the family for burial.
