A three-member investigation committee has been established following the alleged rape of a patient’s mother at the Natore Modern Sadar Hospital. The health department has directed the committee to submit its official findings within the next five working days.
The Civil Surgeon of Natore, Dr Mohammad Mashiur Rahman, confirmed the formation of the probe committee on Wednesday afternoon, 10 June. However, citing the integrity of the ongoing investigation, he declined to disclose the names of the committee members. He noted that the panel comprises one official from the hospital and two external officials from outside the health department.

According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 22:00 last Sunday. The victim, whose two-year-old daughter was admitted to the hospital’s paediatric ward, was approached by a hospital cleaner identified as Amit (23). Under the pretext of providing medicine, Amit allegedly led the woman into the lift and took her to the sixth-floor staircase, where the assault took place.
During the assault, two other hospital cleaners, identified as Anil and Prangan, reportedly filmed the incident on a mobile device. The perpetrators then detained the victim, showed her the recorded footage, and attempted to assault her a second time.
At approximately 02:00, hospital security personnel (Ansar members) noticed the infant crying continuously in the absence of her mother. Prompted by the distress, they reviewed the hospital’s CCTV footage, which led them to the sixth-floor staircase. The security guards caught the suspects red-handed; however, subsequent allegations emerged suggesting that the hospital authorities released the accused individuals shortly after they were detained.
Following the incident, the victim’s father lodged a formal complaint at the Natore Sadar Police Station. Law enforcement officials subsequently conducted a raid in the Sweeper Colony of the Alaipur area in Natore town, successfully apprehending all three suspects.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Natore Sadar Police Station, Md Mansur Rahman, stated that the victim’s official statement has been recorded and her medical examination has been successfully completed. Furthermore, the police have seized the relevant CCTV footage from the hospital as evidence. OC Rahman emphasised that the case is being investigated with the utmost seriousness, declaring that no perpetrator will be spared regardless of their position.
Meanwhile, intense public anger has erupted among local residents regarding the hospital administration’s failure to take immediate administrative action and the subsequent reports of the suspects being temporarily released. The victim’s family asserted that the hospital authorities initially failed to view the matter with due gravity. They have also expressed deep concern, stating that the victim and her family currently feel highly insecure.
