During a press conference at Mirpur ahead of the forthcoming One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand, the 63-year-old addressed the administrative instability with a characteristic sense of perspective, noting that his extensive experience in the sport has left him immune to surprise.
Administrative Transitions within the BCB
Since Simmons assumed his role in May 2024, the BCB has seen an unprecedented series of leadership changes. Initially appointed under the presidency of Farooq Ahmed, Simmons witnessed a transition just two weeks after his arrival when Aminul Islam replaced Ahmed. This tenure was also short-lived; on 7 April, after only ten months in office, the National Sports Council dissolved Aminul’s committee. Currently, the board is governed by an ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal.

“Nothing in life surprises me anymore. This is not specific to Bangladesh; it is my general outlook on life. I have experienced enough ups and downs to know how much can change daily, so I am no longer startled by such events.”
Simmons further emphasised that the shifting presidencies did not alter the workload or the focus of the coaching group. Regarding the players’ psychological state amidst the exchange of allegations following Aminul Islam’s departure, Simmons noted that he observed no decline in professionalism. He remarked that the squad has remained diligent, with some individuals working harder than usual to ensure they are prepared for the New Zealand challenge.

After addressing the administrative queries, Simmons urged the media to return the focus to on-field matters. The Bangladesh team is set to commence their home series against New Zealand this Friday. The schedule for the three-match ODI series is as follows:
