In Jashore’s Sharsha upazila, police have arrested three individuals following allegations of the gang rape of a woman, the wife of a migrant worker, in the village of Chhoto Basantapur. A case was filed on Sunday naming five accused persons, after which law enforcement conducted an operation leading to the arrest of three suspects. Two others remain at large.
The development was confirmed on Monday afternoon through a press release issued by Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Maruf Hossain.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Hasib Al Hasan (19) of Chanduriar Ghop village under Nizampur union, Abdur Rahman Imon (22) of Chhoto Basantapur village, and Mehedi Hasan Tutul (23) of the same locality. According to police, the remaining accused are Abdullah Al Mamun (24) and another individual named Imon (23), both of whom are currently absconding.
Police and local sources stated that the incident occurred on Saturday night when the victim stepped outside her home to respond to a natural call. At that time, she was allegedly confronted by a group of five individuals who had been lying in wait. The accused reportedly restrained her at knifepoint and forcibly took her to a secluded location, where she was gang raped under threat of death, according to the case statement.
Following the incident, the victim lodged a written complaint at Sharsha Police Station on Sunday, naming all five suspects. Acting on the complaint, police launched a special operation and arrested three of the accused. The arrested individuals were subsequently produced before the court on Monday.

Officer-in-Charge Maruf Hossain stated that the case was initiated based on the victim’s written complaint and that three suspects were apprehended during a targeted police operation. He added that they have already been produced before the court and further legal procedures are underway.
Police further confirmed that efforts are continuing to arrest the remaining two accused. Investigators are also examining whether any additional individuals were involved in the incident. The case remains under active investigation, and authorities have stated that operations to apprehend the fugitives are ongoing.
