Unidentified Body Recovered from Feni Border Zero Line

Police and border guards have recovered the body of an unidentified man from the ‘no man’s land’ area near the Fulgazi border in Feni district. The discovery was made on Thursday afternoon in the Kamalla village area, situated within the Munshirhat Union. Despite ongoing efforts by local authorities, the identity of the deceased remained unconfirmed as of 3:00 pm on the day of the recovery.

Circumstances of the Discovery

According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the body was first spotted early Thursday morning lying on a plot of land adjacent to the international border in Kamalla village. Upon discovering the remains, villagers promptly alerted the local police and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

Personnel from both the police and the BGB arrived at the scene shortly thereafter to secure the perimeter and conduct a preliminary inquest. Following the completion of the on-site legal formalities and the drafting of the inquest report (Surathal), the body was transported to the Fulgazi Police Station for further investigation.

Official Statements and Observations

The deceased is estimated to be between 45 and 50 years of age. At the time of recovery, he was dressed in a black long-sleeved T-shirt and black trousers. While local residents have speculated that the individual might be an Indian national, authorities have refrained from making such a determination pending a formal investigation.

Mohammad Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Fulgazi Police Station, stated that law enforcement has reached out to the local community to aid in the identification process. However, no residents have been able to identify the man thus far. He further noted that no visible signs of physical assault or severe injury were found on the body during the initial examination.

Providing further technical details, Nishat Tabassum, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Feni, clarified the location of the incident:

“The spot where the body was found is approximately 150 yards from the Indian border fence. While there were no major injury marks, we observed minor abrasions on the body, similar to the type of scratches sustained when attempting to cross barbed-wire fencing.”

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has been officially notified of the incident, as is standard procedure for deaths occurring in the immediate vicinity of the international boundary.

Jurisdiction and Investigation

The specific section of the border where the recovery took place falls under the jurisdiction of the BGB-10 Cumilla Battalion. Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, Commanding Officer of the BGB-10 Cumilla Battalion, confirmed that an inquiry is underway to establish whether the deceased was a citizen of Bangladesh or India.

The body is currently being held for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
