Authorities from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) successfully intercepted a major drug consignment on Tuesday night, arresting a 29-year-old man, Mosharaf Hossain, with 6,000 yaba tablets. The operation took place on the Saidpur-Dinajpur highway at Wapda More in Saidpur town, Nilphamari.
According to Sub-Inspector Sakib Sarkar of the Nilphamari District DNC office, the action was based on a tip-off regarding the transportation of illicit drugs. A passenger bus operated by Nabil Transport, travelling from Dhaka to Thakurgaon, was stopped for inspection. During the operation, officers discovered a bag in Mosharaf Hossain’s possession containing 30 blue zippered packets, each holding 200 yaba tablets, totaling 6,000 units. He was immediately taken into custody.
Mosharaf Hossain is a resident of Baloncha (Part) village in Ranisankail Upazila, Thakurgaon District. His father is Mostofa Kamal. Sub-Inspector Sarkar stated that Hossain had been involved in buying and distributing narcotics across multiple regions of the country. Following the arrest, a case was filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act 2018 at Saidpur Police Station.

The DNC emphasised that operations like these are part of a broader effort to curb drug trafficking and distribution nationwide. Sub-Inspector Sarkar urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics, assuring strict legal action against offenders.
Local residents have welcomed the crackdown, highlighting the increasing concern over drug trafficking in passenger transport, which poses significant social risks. Authorities noted that such vigilance is crucial not only for law enforcement but also for safeguarding communities from the harmful impacts of narcotics.
This arrest underscores the ongoing challenges the authorities face in combating illegal drug networks in Bangladesh, signalling that both local and cross-district trafficking will continue to be rigorously monitored. By maintaining coordinated operations and intelligence-led interventions, the DNC aims to reduce the prevalence of drugs and bring perpetrators to justice.
