Youth Found Hanging in Toilet

The body of a 20-year-old man was recovered by police from a household toilet in what appears to be a suspected suicide in the northern district of Nilphamari, Bangladesh.

The deceased, identified as Gauranga Chandra Ray, son of the late Rajendra Chandra Ray, was found hanging inside the toilet of his family home in the Noyonpara area under Panga Motukpur Union in Domar Upazila on Wednesday morning (13 May).

According to local residents and police reports, the incident is believed to have occurred sometime between midnight on Tuesday and early morning hours of Wednesday. It is suspected that the young man used a rope tied to a wooden beam inside the toilet structure to take his own life.

Family members reportedly began searching for him after noticing his absence in the morning. He was later discovered hanging inside the toilet, prompting immediate alarm. Police were subsequently informed and arrived at the scene to recover the body.

Officers confirmed that the remains were later sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and to rule out any external involvement. Authorities have stated that, based on preliminary observations, the case is being treated as an unnatural death.

At this stage, the motive behind the incident remains unclear. Investigators have not yet identified any suicide note or explicit indication of the circumstances that may have led to the tragedy. Local sources have indicated that the deceased lived with his family in the rural village setting and had no previously known major disputes, although police have not confirmed this publicly.

A general case of unnatural death has been filed in connection with the incident, and standard legal procedures are being followed. The body will be handed over to the family once the post-mortem examination and formalities are completed.
