Zimbabwe national cricket team have named a 15-member squad for their upcoming one-off Test against Bangladesh, set to begin on Sunday at the Harare Sports Club. The match marks Zimbabwe’s return to Test cricket following a long break since their last red-ball appearance, adding renewed interest to a fixture that already carries competitive significance.
Fast bowler Richard Ngarava will lead the side, taking charge of a squad that blends returning experience with emerging talent. Zimbabwe’s selectors have recalled several seasoned players in an effort to restore balance and stability after an inconsistent run in the longest format. Among those returning are Innocent Kaia, Graeme Cremer, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wesley Madhevere and Newman Nyamhuri. Their inclusion is expected to strengthen both the batting order and the all-round options available to the side.
However, the absence of key all-rounder Sikandar Raza is a significant setback. Raza, currently engaged in county cricket in England, will miss the series entirely. His unavailability is likely to be felt across multiple departments, particularly in the middle order and spin-bowling support, where he has often played a decisive role.
Zimbabwe last featured in a Test series against Bangladesh in April–May last year, a closely fought contest that ended level at 1–1. That result underlined how evenly matched the two sides can be in red-ball cricket, particularly in familiar subcontinental and African conditions. With only one Test scheduled this time, there is little margin for error, increasing the pressure on both teams to start strongly and sustain consistency over five days.
Bangladesh national cricket team arrive with a balanced squad led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. The batting unit features a mix of experience and youth, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, and other established contributors who have long formed the backbone of Bangladesh’s Test line-up. The squad also includes several promising players aiming to cement their places at the highest level.
In the bowling department, Bangladesh will rely on a combination of spin and pace, with Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan expected to play key roles in the subcontinental-style conditions, supported by a pace attack featuring Hasan Mahmud and others.
Zimbabwe’s squad, meanwhile, includes Craig Ervine, Brian Bennett, Brad Evans, Ben Curran, Tanaka Chivanga, Blessing Muzarabani and Brendan Taylor, offering a mix of leadership, experience and attacking potential. The presence of both established names and younger prospects suggests a side still in transition but eager to reassert itself in Test cricket.
With both teams closely matched in their recent encounters, the forthcoming Test is widely expected to be shaped by batting resilience and the effectiveness of the pace attacks, particularly during the opening and closing phases of each innings.
