Warning from BNP MP: Leave Titas before mobile is made

Newly elected BNP parliamentarian, Professor Selim Bhuiyan, has issued a stark warning to Titash Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumaya Momin, urging her to transfer elsewhere before unrest arises in the locality.

The warning came during a meet-and-greet event with party leaders and supporters in the Kalakandi area of Titash on Saturday evening. A video capturing his remarks has rapidly circulated on social media, drawing significant public attention.

Selim Bhuiyan, representing the Comilla-2 (Homna-Titash) constituency, claimed that the UNO had exhibited “anti-leadership behaviour” towards them and allegedly treated party activists discourteously. He indicated that complaints regarding her behaviour towards local leaders had been received.

In the video, Bhuiyan stated, “Since my candidacy, I have not spoken to Titash UNO Sumaya Momin for a single day. I am aware of the steps required for an individual who treats the public in this manner. I hope she will be transferred swiftly, as she does not demonstrate proper conduct. I have issued a warning because, should any mob arise, she will be held responsible.”

The event was attended by several prominent local BNP figures, including Titash Upazila BNP President Osman Gani Bhuiyan, General Secretary Mehedi Hasan, Homna Upazila BNP President Md. Mohiuddin, and former Titash Upazila Parishad Chairman Salah Uddin Sarkar.

This incident underscores ongoing tensions between newly elected political representatives and administrative officials in Bangladesh, highlighting the challenges of governance at the local level. Political analysts note that such public admonitions of civil servants can escalate local unrest, particularly in politically sensitive constituencies.
