Fans fortunate enough to attend last week’s shows may have witnessed The Lanes sharing the stage with Drive-By Truckers in a striking opening performance. For those who missed it, there is exciting news: The Lanes have now released their debut album, a self-titled ten-track collection that showcases the band’s versatile rock sensibilities.
The album features core members Matt and Kevin, alongside prominent local musicians such as Richard Milkulka and Chuck Bradburn. Renowned engineer Jason NeSmith at Chase Park Transduction handled the mixing and mastering, giving the record a polished yet dynamic sound.
Musically, the album explores a multilingual and multi-influenced approach to rock ‘n’ roll. Most tracks adopt moderate to slow tempos, allowing the melodies to resonate powerfully. Highlights include “It’s Only You”, which evokes the nostalgic harmonies of the Beach Boys and the shoegaze textures of Jesus & Mary Chain, and “I Won’t Say Anything”, a track inspired by Big Star, reflecting poignant lyricism and melodic craftsmanship.
