Former Adviser to the Caretaker Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has officially vacated the state guesthouse ‘Jamuna’ in Dhaka. The departure took place on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at approximately 3:30 PM, as he left for his private residence in Gulshan, marking the end of his tenure at the government property.

The news was confirmed by Khalequzzaman Chowdhury, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), who told local media that Dr. Yunus had taken some personal belongings with him when leaving the premises. “Our officials have confirmed that the former Adviser has vacated the property. Only a few personal items were removed by him,” he said.

Upcoming Renovation and Preparation

Following Dr. Yunus’s departure, the Public Works Department has announced that essential renovation and maintenance work will commence immediately. Once the refurbishment is completed, the Jamuna Guesthouse will be prepared for use by the newly appointed Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, all interior design, technical, and maintenance tasks are scheduled to be completed within the current month. The aim is to ensure the property is fully functional and ready for official occupancy. However, it remains unclear whether Prime Minister Rahman will immediately move into the residence, as he currently resides at his private home in Gulshan.
