A violent clash erupted on Wednesday evening between two factions of Jamaat-e-Islami in Rajshahi city, raising alarm among local residents. The incident took place around 7:45 pm near the Hetem Khan Museum corner, with the confrontation quickly drawing a crowd.
Local sources indicated that the dispute began over the sale of a motorcycle. Leaders and supporters from Ward 9 of the party reportedly engaged in a heated verbal argument regarding the timing of the transfer of ownership documents. The disagreement escalated rapidly into a physical confrontation, with both sides resorting to throwing bricks and stones. During the clash, a shop belonging to one faction and a motorcycle were reportedly vandalised.
The factions involved have been identified as the Md. Mominul Islam (Mona) group and the Rashedul Hasan Parvez group. Parvez serves as the general secretary of Ward 9 of the Rajshahi City Jamaat, while Mona is a party member.
Eyewitnesses stated that the conflict arose from a condition that the motorcycle papers would be delivered later, which triggered the initial argument. The situation escalated as supporters joined in from both sides. Residents in the area intervened promptly to prevent further violence, and the Malo Para Police Outpost of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) arrived soon after to secure the scene. By late evening, authorities confirmed that order had been restored.

When contacted, Imaj Uddin Mondal, Secretary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat, downplayed the incident as a personal dispute. “The confrontation arose between two individuals over the purchase and sale of a motorcycle. It is not a matter between Jamaat factions. Personal disputes should never be interpreted as organisational conflicts,” he said.
Md. Gaziur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, corroborated the account, stating, “Two individuals and their associates were involved in an argument over a motorcycle transaction, which escalated. Police intervened promptly and restored order. The situation is now under control.”
The incident highlights how minor personal disagreements can escalate into public disturbances, particularly when party supporters are involved. Authorities emphasised that quick community intervention and a rapid police response were instrumental in preventing a larger escalation
