A tragic incident struck Faridpur district on Friday, 20 March, when Azharul Islam, aged 52, a hospital ward boy, lost his life after being struck by lightning. The unfortunate event occurred near the C&BD Ghat area in Dikrirchar Union, sending shockwaves through the local community. Azharul was a resident of Jhiltuli, Faridpur city, and served diligently at the Diabetic Association Medical College and Hospital, where he was known for his unwavering commitment and hardworking nature.
According to local sources, the incident took place around midday when dark clouds suddenly gathered in the sky, indicating an imminent storm. Concerned about the livestock, Azharul went out to secure the cows in the fields. During this task, a sudden lightning strike hit him on the spot, leading to his immediate death.
His colleague, Kawsar Hossain, described Azharul as “extremely responsible and dedicated.” He added, “He always took his duties seriously. Even today, he was committed to his work until the very last moment.”
Md. Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that the police arrived promptly after receiving the report and retrieved the body. An accidental death case has been filed at the local police station. The OC clarified that there were no suspicious injuries on the body and that the death is being treated as a natural disaster caused by lightning.
