A three-member committee has been constituted to investigate an incident in which a Dakhil Mathematics examination in Sherpur Upazila of Bogura District was conducted using question papers from an old syllabus. Following the incident, five individuals, including the hall superintendent and four invigilators, have been removed from examination duties on grounds of alleged negligence.
The matter was confirmed on Monday evening by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md Saeeduzzaman Himu.
The examination was held at the Sherpur Shahidia Alia Kamil Madrasa centre, where candidates sat in rooms 101 and 102. A total of 29 students took part in the test. Among them, 10 were from Fulthola Dakhil Madrasa, 13 from Rajardighi, three from Chaksadir, and three from Ulipur Ameria Madrasa. All participants were regular candidates following the updated syllabus.
According to students, at the beginning of the Mathematics examination, invigilators distributed question papers based on the 2025 old syllabus instead of the revised curriculum. The students completed the test using those papers without realising the discrepancy during the examination period. The issue came to light only after they returned home and informed their families and institutions. This led to concern among guardians, who later demanded a proper investigation and action against those responsible. They also raised concerns about possible implications for the examination results.
The centre secretary and principal of Sherpur Shahidia Alia Kamil Madrasa, Hafizur Rahman, confirmed the incident, describing it as an unintentional administrative error. He stated that the mistake was not identified during the examination but was discovered afterwards. He added that he had already discussed the matter with relevant authorities under the madrasa education board and assured that the students would not face any disadvantage in their results.
In response, a formal inquiry has been launched. The investigation committee comprises Md Nazrul Islam, Upazila Secondary Education Officer; Abdul Jobbar, Upazila Project Implementation Officer; and Md Zakir Hossain, Academic Supervisor of the Education Office.
In addition, five officials have been relieved of their examination responsibilities due to alleged negligence. They are the hall superintendent Haydar Ali and four invigilators—Hasna Khatun, Zobeda Khatun, Kowshar Ahmed, and Mamunur Rashid.
The UNO stated that discussions had been held with relevant education board officials to ensure that the affected students are not academically disadvantaged due to the incident. He further noted that, despite assurances regarding the students’ results, the inquiry has been initiated to determine how the procedural lapse occurred and to establish accountability.
