A young man who had reportedly been missing for more than a month was allegedly murdered and buried beneath the floor of a cowshed in Sharsa sub-district’s border-adjacent Bostopur village near Benapole, police said. The body, which had been covered with cement after burial, was recovered around 35 days after the alleged killing.
Police have detained four individuals in connection with the case and sent them to court on Sunday, 10 May.
The deceased was identified as Ikramul Kabir, 25, son of Abdul Rashid of South Baropota village under Putkhali Union in Sharsa upazila of Jashore district. The detainees are Muni Begum, 20, Kakoli Begum, 19, Fazlu Morol, 55, and Farhad Hossain, 28.
According to local residents and family sources, Ikramul Kabir had reportedly maintained a long-term extramarital relationship with Munni, 22, the wife of Al Fuad of East Para area in Bostopur village. Approximately one month and five days ago, Ikramul allegedly went to collect money owed to him from Munni and subsequently went missing. Family members were unable to trace his whereabouts following his disappearance.
After he remained missing for an extended period, suspicions arose and police initiated an investigation into the matter. During the investigation, police detained Al Fuad, the husband of the woman named in the allegations. Based on information obtained during questioning, officers conducted a raid at the family residence in Bostopur village on Saturday evening.
Police excavated the floor of a cowshed at the property and recovered Ikramul Kabir’s partially decomposed body from beneath the ground. Investigators said the body had allegedly been buried and the surface sealed with cement in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.
Authorities stated that preliminary findings suggest the killing may have been linked to disputes surrounding the alleged extramarital relationship and money transactions. Police said Ikramul may have been strangled or killed by another method before the body was buried. However, the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
The body was sent to the morgue at Jashore General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Sharsa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Maruf Hossain said the investigation remains ongoing to determine the precise motive and whether additional individuals were involved in the incident.
