Manik Arrested in Netrokona Operation

Police have arrested Manik (35), a fugitive accused in multiple cases, during a special operation conducted in the district town area of Netrokona on Sunday night. The arrest was made by officers of Barhatta Police Station following targeted action based on verified warrants.

Manik, son of Bazlur Rahman, is a resident of Naighati village under Barhatta upazila in Netrokona. According to police statements, he had been absconding for a prolonged period in connection with several criminal cases and was wanted under multiple ongoing judicial proceedings.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barhatta Police Station, Champak, confirmed that a total of nine cases are currently under trial against Manik. These include charges related to assault, rape, and offences under the Speedy Trial Act. In addition, arrest warrants had been issued in two separate cases involving attempted murder. Acting on these warrants, law enforcement authorities conducted the arrest operation using technological assistance.

Police further stated that an earlier attempt to apprehend Manik was carried out on 8 May. However, during that operation, he managed to evade arrest. Following that incident, allegations emerged that a complainant named Saikul was seriously injured in an attack involving a sharp weapon. The matter remains under active investigation as part of the broader case proceedings.

After his arrest on Sunday night, Manik was taken into custody and brought to Barhatta Police Station. Authorities have indicated that necessary legal procedures are currently being prepared in accordance with the instructions of the relevant court. Further action will be determined based on judicial directives and the progress of ongoing investigations.
