Fatal Collision Claims Young Professional

A 28-year-old man was killed in a road accident after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw reportedly collided with his motorcycle in the Shanir Akhra area of the capital on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sajid Hasan, son of Solaiman from Srirampur village under Ramganj upazila in Lakshmipur district. He was employed as a Product Executive Officer at Al Madina Pharmaceuticals Ltd, according to family sources.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:15 am in the area between Rayerbagh and Shanir Akhra, a busy stretch known for heavy traffic congestion and a high volume of mixed vehicles, including motorcycles, buses, trucks, and three-wheelers.

According to an eyewitness, a student named Sohan, the CNG-driven auto-rickshaw struck Sajid’s motorcycle from the side or rear while he was travelling through the area. The impact reportedly threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured.

Local residents and passers-by rushed to his aid and arranged for his immediate transportation to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, the attending physician declared him dead at 11:42 am.

A source at the police outpost of Dhaka Medical College Hospital confirmed that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue pending further legal procedures. The relevant police station has also been informed, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Road safety experts have repeatedly warned about the risks faced by motorcyclists in Dhaka, particularly on major arterial roads where traffic discipline remains weak. Reckless lane changing, sudden stops, and poor adherence to traffic regulations by both private and public vehicles are frequently cited as contributing factors in such incidents.

Motorcycle accidents continue to account for a significant proportion of urban road fatalities in Bangladesh. Safety campaigners have urged stricter enforcement of traffic laws, better driver training, and dedicated motorcycle lanes where feasible to reduce the growing number of casualties.
