The current session of the Bangladesh National Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad) is scheduled to resume today at 3:00 pm, following a six-day adjournment. The session will be presided over by the Speaker of the Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
This resumption marks the next phase of the current parliamentary sitting, which was paused on 30 June after the successful passage of the national budget for the 2026–27 financial year.
Prior to the recess, parliamentarians successfully approved the Finance Bill and several other critical legislative measures alongside the national budget, which was initially placed before the House on 11 June. The subsequent weeks saw exhaustive deliberations between treasury and opposition bench members.
In addition to scrutinising fiscal allocations, lawmakers engaged in extensive debates concerning pressing national issues. Key areas of focus included:
Economic Stability: Strategies to combat inflation and stabilise the macroeconomy.
Employment: Initiatives to foster job creation amidst shifting market dynamics.
Governance: Discussions on national security, law and order, and electoral processes.
According to sources within the Parliament Secretariat, today’s order of business is heavily packed with administrative accountability and legislative reviews. The session will commence with a designated question-and-answer segment involving five key ministries and state bodies:
Ministry of Water Resources
Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Ministry of Public Administration
Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock
Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat
Furthermore, pursuant to Rule 71 of the Rules of Procedure, the House will deliberate on two notices of urgent public importance. The first notice focuses on the leather sector, specifically addressing the standardisation of 100 per cent exports for leather and leather products, guaranteeing fair prices for raw hides, and enhancing global market competitiveness. The second notice concerns social welfare, focusing on the allocation and settlement of government-owned fallow land (Khas land) to landless and impoverished citizens.
The legislative agenda for the day also includes the presentation of a special committee report on the ‘Bangladesh Metrocoll University (Second Amendment) Bill, 2026’, followed by standard law-making procedures.
Official sources have also indicated that the ongoing session is expected to finalise the formulation of the Parliament’s standing committees. While several ministry-related standing committees have already been constituted, preparations are underway to complete the remaining committees before the session concludes.
According to the initial decision of the Business Advisory Committee, the current parliamentary session is slated to continue until 9 July. However, parliamentary officials have noted that the duration may be extended further if legislative priorities require additional floor time.
