Electrical Short Circuit Causes Fire at Manikganj Police Station

A sudden fire broke out inside Manikganj Sadar Police Station on Thursday afternoon, completely gutting the office room of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monir Hossain. The blaze destroyed several electronic appliances and office furnishings, though prompt action by local firefighters prevented casualties and stopped the flames from spreading across the administrative complex.

Initial assessments conducted by the Fire Service and Civil Defence suggest that an electrical short circuit triggered the incident. Emergency calls alerted the local fire station at approximately 3:55 pm, prompting two firefighting units to dispatch to the scene. Firefighters arrived swiftly, managing to bring the blaze under complete control within fifteen minutes of their arrival.

Despite the rapid emergency response, the intensity of the flames caused significant material damage within the officer’s private quarters. Interior fixtures, an air conditioning unit, a television set, and various items of office furniture were destroyed in the fire.

Adam Ali, an official stationed at the Manikganj Fire Service Headquarters, stated that preliminary evidence points toward an electrical malfunction originating from the television set inside the room. He estimated the structural and property damage at between 300,000 and 400,000 taka. He further emphasized that the swift containment of the outbreak prevented the flames from penetrating adjacent administrative rooms, file repositories, or holding cells within the station building.

Reliving the incident, OC Monir Hossain explained that he had stepped out of his office only moments before the fire broke out. Shortly after leaving the premises, duty officers informed him of smoke emanating from his room. Returning to the scene, he found the interior damaged by flames and smoke, but expressed relief that no police personnel, visitors, or detainees suffered injuries during the event.

Police stations across Bangladesh handle critical legal documentation, case files, and public safety operations daily. While accidental fires caused by aging wiring or overloaded electronic appliances pose occasional operational challenges to public infrastructure, emergency readiness at the Manikganj facility minimized broader damage to ongoing law enforcement operations. Normal administrative duties at Manikganj Sadar Police Station resumed shortly after safety checks were completed.
