Students Sell Flowers at Jagannath University to Fund Noor Nabi’s Cancer Treatment

Mir Noor Nabi, a student of the Finance Department at Jagannath University’s 2019-20 session, has been battling cancer for several years. Due to financial constraints, his treatment has been halted. In response, leaders and members of the university’s branch of the Student Rights Council have stepped in, raising funds for his medical care by selling flowers on campus.

On Sunday morning, members of the Student Rights Council were seen selling flowers at the 1971 Genocide Memorial, using tables and chairs to facilitate their efforts. They then moved to the Shaheed Minar, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science to sell flowers to students, raising money to support Noor Nabi’s treatment.

Currently in his fourth year of undergraduate study, Noor Nabi was diagnosed with cancer after completing his SSC in 2017 and had to have his left leg amputated. Despite this, he has remained dedicated to his studies, enrolling in Jagannath University’s Finance Department and commuting daily from Savar to attend classes. He has now completed seven semesters. Doctors have reported that the cancer has now spread to his lungs.

Al Shahriar, a Finance Department student, said, “Everyone’s support can bring new hope into Noor Nabi’s life. We are campaigning through social media and various platforms. Posters have been put up around campus, and more events are planned. Let’s unite in humanity and stand by Noor Nabi.”

AKM Rakib, president of the Student Rights Council, added, “Many people are collecting funds for Noor Nabi in different ways. We have taken the initiative to seek help through flower sales. Students’ response has been very positive, and both faculty and students are cooperating wholeheartedly.”

When asked if the university administration would provide financial support, KEAM Rifat Hasan, director of the Student Welfare Department, said, “There is no separate allocation for students in the department. The budget provided is only used for official purposes. However, if Noor Nabi’s classmates organise a concert on campus to raise funds for his treatment, we will cooperate.”
