Amar Ekushey Book Fair Kicks Off February

The highly anticipated Amar Ekushey Book Fair is scheduled to commence in Dhaka on 20 February, marking one of the most significant literary events in the country. According to a press release issued by the Bangla Academy on Wednesday, 17 December, all final preparations for the fair have now been formally confirmed. The Academy convened a special meeting at the Shahid Munir Chowdhury Hall at 5 pm to discuss the fair’s schedule, organisation, and detailed arrangements.

The meeting was attended by Md. Mofidur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam, members of the Academy’s board of directors, Dhaka University Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, representatives of publishing houses, and law enforcement officials. The attendees reviewed every aspect of the fair, including security measures, event management, and logistical arrangements, to ensure a smooth and successful execution.

It was unanimously decided that the inauguration of Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 will take place at 11 am on 20 February, with the fair continuing until 15 March. Sources from the Bangla Academy confirm that over one hundred publishing houses from across the nation are expected to participate in this year’s event. Visitors can anticipate a wide range of activities, including the launch of new books, literary discussions, reading sessions, children’s literature programmes, and various cultural performances.

The Bangla Academy expressed hope that participating authors and publishers will have opportunities to engage directly with readers, fostering meaningful connections within the literary community. The event is also expected to serve as a vital platform for networking between writers, publishers, and literary enthusiasts. Law enforcement personnel will be present throughout the fair to maintain a secure and orderly environment for all attendees.

To enhance the visitor experience, the Academy has implemented extensive measures to make this year’s fair more organised, engaging, and reader-friendly. Attendees will have the chance to explore a diverse array of publications, participate in literary debates, and immerse themselves in cultural activities. Special programmes have been designed for children and young readers to encourage an early love for literature and creative learning.
