Man Arrested in Faridpur for Allegedly Raping Mother-in-Law

Police have arrested a man in Faridpur’s Sadarpur sub-district following allegations that he raped his mother-in-law. Officers apprehended the suspect after the survivor placed an emergency call to the national helpline, 999.

The incident took place around 11:30 pm on Thursday in the Nijgram area, located within the Krishnapur union of the sub-district. According to local residents and police sources, the 42-year-old woman was at home by herself when the assault occurred. Taking advantage of her isolation, her son-in-law, identified as Biplob Matubbor, allegedly entered the house, locked the door behind him, and violated her by force.

Emergency Response and Arrest

Immediately after the ordeal, the survivor contacted the national emergency service, 999, to seek urgent assistance. Upon receiving the distress call, Sadarpur Police Station despatched a team to the scene. Sub-Inspector Mo. Ashraful Huq, accompanied by an emergency force, arrived at the location at approximately 4:00 am on Friday.

The officers quickly secured the area, arrested Biplob Matubbor from the spot, and rescued the traumatised woman. She was subsequently escorted to a secure facility to initiate necessary legal and medical procedures.

Legal Proceedings and Judicial Custody

The Officer-in-Charge of Sadarpur Police Station, Mo. Abdul Al Mamun Shah, confirmed that a formal case has been registered against the accused. The charges have been filed under the strict provisions of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, which handles severe offences of sexual violence in Bangladesh.

Following a primary interrogation, the police produced the suspect before a local court on Friday afternoon. The magistrate rejected any immediate bail consideration and ordered the accused to be sent to the Faridpur District Jail pending further judicial proceedings.
