Bangladesh Weather: Rain and Gusty Winds Forecast

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a comprehensive five-day weather forecast, predicting rainfall and thunderstorms across various regions of the country. According to a bulletin released on Saturday, 9 May 2026, by senior meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick, unsettled weather patterns are expected to persist, particularly in the northern districts.

Twenty-Four Hour Outlook: 9 May to 10 May

The BMD reports that within the next 24 hours, isolated areas in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions are likely to experience temporary gusty or squally winds accompanied by rain or thundershowers. Lightning activity is also expected during this period. In contrast, other parts of the nation will see mainly dry conditions with temporary partly cloudy skies. Both day and night temperatures are projected to remain largely unchanged across the country.

Extended Forecast: 10 May to 11 May

From Sunday morning, the geographical spread of the precipitation is expected to widen. Rain or thundershowers with gusty winds are forecast for isolated spots across all eight divisions: Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. During this window, a slight decrease in both day and night temperatures is anticipated nationwide.

Progression of Conditions: 11 May to 13 May

The pattern of intermittent rainfall is set to continue through Monday, 11 May, with a further slight dip in temperatures. By Tuesday, 12 May, the intensity is expected to concentrate in the Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, where “some places” (denoting a higher frequency than “isolated”) will experience rain. Other divisions, including Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Khulna, will see more scattered activity.

By Wednesday, 13 May, the BMD anticipates a notable increase in rainfall frequency in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. While daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to stabilise during the final 24 hours of the forecast period, humidity and wind speeds may fluctuate locally.
