A collision between a passenger bus and a pickup vehicle in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur district has resulted in two fatalities and injuries to at least 29 people, after the bus overturned into a roadside ditch following the impact.

The accident took place at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday (13 April) in the Bablatola Bus Stand area of Chumurdhi Union along the Faridpur–Barishal highway. Police reported that a passenger bus operated by Shah Faridpur Paribahan was travelling from Faridpur towards Madaripur when it came into a head-on collision with a pickup truck carrying watermelons, which was moving in the opposite direction.

Following the collision, the bus lost control and fell into a ditch beside the highway. The pickup truck also sustained severe damage, particularly to its front section, due to the force of the impact.

The deceased were identified as Jahangir Molla (40), son of Seken Molla, and Almgir Sheikh (50), son of Nesar Uddin Sheikh. Both men were residents of Koidubi Sadardi Mahalla under Bhanga municipality and were involved in the watermelon business.

Rescue operations were carried out by members of the Bhanga Fire Service alongside highway police personnel. The injured were promptly evacuated from the accident site and taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex for emergency treatment.

Bhanga Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Md Helal Uddin stated that the collision occurred between the bus and the pickup vehicle, after which the bus overturned into the adjacent ditch. He confirmed that both vehicles were significantly damaged in the incident.

Fire Service Station Manager Abu Jafar reported that approximately 30 injured individuals were rescued from the scene and transported to the Upazila Health Complex for medical attention.

According to Bhanga Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Tanziv Zubair, a total of 29 injured people were admitted to the facility, including 28 passengers from the bus and the driver of the pickup vehicle. Of these, 12 individuals in critical condition were referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while the remaining patients received primary care at the local facility. Several of the less severely injured were discharged after initial treatment.

Authorities confirmed that emergency response measures were implemented immediately following the crash, and traffic movement along the highway was later restored after clearance of the accident scene.
