Housewife’s Body Found Stuffed in Sack in Malibagh

The body of a young housewife, Suravi Akter Mahfuza (21), has been recovered from a sack on the ground floor of a house in the Malibagh area of Shahjahanpur in the capital. Her hands and mouth were tied inside the sack. Suravi worked as a garment factory worker. Since the incident, her husband, Mohammad Ashik, has been on the run.

Sub-Inspector Mohsin Talukdar of Shahjahanpur Police Station said that on Monday night, the body was found inside a plastic sack in a ground-floor room of house number 393/A in Bakshibagh Malibagh. Quoting family members, he stated that Suravi was killed due to marital disputes and then stuffed into the sack. Initial suspicion suggests she might have been fed something and then suffocated. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report.

Her brother Hridoy said Suravi married Ashik six years ago. Ashik worked as a tailor. The reason behind the killing remains unknown. Suravi leaves behind a four-year-old child. Hridoy also mentioned that Ashik had assaulted his sister two years earlier. Although Suravi had then expressed her wish to leave the marriage, she eventually returned. Since then, her contact with her family had been cut off.

Suravi’s ancestral home is in Joynagar under Jajira Police Station in Shariatpur. Her father’s name is Nurul Haque Khan.
